Everything I hear says that monks suck.

Monks do suck, because they aren't proficient with their own fists, are built like "strike first and strike hardest guys" but only have a d8 hit die, and have insane MAD. (STR so you can hit, DEX for initiative and ranged, CON for HP, INT for skillpoints, WIS for class features, CHA not so much.)

Except in 5e, where they can just use DEX for unarmed and monk weapon attacks (though STR is still nice to have for grappling and STR-based skills) and INT is only useful for wizards/wizard-based subclasses and INT skills. And they can use their mobility, since in 5e you can split your movement up as much as you want, even between individual attacks.

They "fixed" monks back in 4e. 5e just builds off of 4th and 3rd, so of course monks are fixed.

They cut too much from 3.5 to 5 for me to consider it.
