Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was actually the first book series that I read all the way through without stopping to read something else.

Good series.

It was made abundantly clear that the question found in Arthur's brain was not The Question. I mean, did the universe get destroyed and instantly replaced by something even more inexplicable when they found out?

According to the Guide, anyway. Which, the books note, was once at one point largely edited by random bums who wandered into the office during lunch.

God would have had to have been around at least as far as LtU&E, because he would have written God's Final Message to His Creation, hence the name of the message. Arthur learns of the Message at the end of LtU&E, but he doesn't go until the end of SL&TFAtF.

Also I think the series actually started making more sense towards the end. You might think it's 'weirder' but to me (sorry I'm having a hard time wording this so it doesn't really read like what I mean) it finally came through the true nature of everything, how it works and why things are the way they are and... yeah. It all just became a lot more cohesive when you understand what's going on.
