It forces everybody to build.
Yes it does.
Are you saying the problem is that people literally forget about building on properties, rather than just having other priorities? Because if so people not knowing the rules is just something you should be used to. Like with auctioning and trading stuff, it's as though I'm the only person who actually read the rules and knows that those are things that exist.

Yeah, people literally forget about building on properties. It's the main reason I win every time I play.

Oh, and the other rule was that every time anybody lands on a property, it goes up for auction immediately, instead of going straight to whoever landed there.

Sounds like you're just encouraging the influence of the rich there.

ugh I've been logged in 325 days murderize me
well alright how do you want to go?

i've got slots open for crocodile feeding frenzy and volcano spelunking right now, but if you can wait till next week there's a spot in the ever-popular Sol-boxing competition
At first I read the last part as Soli-boxing. I doubt he would appreciate that (either the punchy or the being put in a box kinds), but not so much that it would be fatal.

Also, I realized that I read my calendar wrong, and I still have this week left for D&D night before I have to go on a two week hiatus because of work scheduling.

...that's not a bad thing at all. It makes the game faster, for one. IIRC the game was meant to show people what kind of horrible economic situations happen in a laissez-faire economy, I.E snowballs where you've lost the instant someone has any significant amount of money more than you.

Also, why isn't this song as famous as the zelda theme

It works out, trust me.

It's mostly so that there's actual skill involved instead of

1. Go around the board ten thousand times
2. Wait for everybody else to run out of snacks, leave, fall asleep, or die of old age
3. Land on That Guy's hoteled Mayfair/Boardwalk
4. Tableflip
5. ???
6. Profit!

Because the original game only ever came out in Japan while Zelda went worldwide? Then when Mother 2/Earthbound went international, it was more of a cult classic than a smash hit if I remember correctly.

"This game stinks!"

Surreal humor didn't help with the marketing campaign.

Meanwhile, A Link to the Past had the coolest commercial ever.

Generally my family plays monopoly until the first bankruptcy, totaling scores at that point with whoever has the highest total value winning. It can lead to a bit of a scramble, and means that sometimes you don't want to just max your Boardwalk if the fee from a player hitting it once won't pull you into the lead but will bankrupt them (since we play where the player doesn't have to actually pay the thing that bankrupts them totally, they just hand over all of their cash and then their score equals the total of their property + their houses).

Y'know, the slog of Monopoly is just part of the message. Not only is the economic situation horribly imbalanced forever because someone got lucky early on, it also lasts forever, and everyone except that one rich asshole is fluctuating between utter disassociation from reality and slow-burning hatred. And it can only really end when someone flips the board and makes all those bits of paper meaningless again.
