EDIT: Also, I fucking need this. I'm taking the rest of the night off - I'll only have spent about 4 hours doing actual work today. As I've whined about, at great length, this'll be the easiest day in a month. I'll go to sleep early and hopefully catch up a big chunk of deficit.

... I wonder if that stress/stability thing means we'll eventually be able to have a species that literally has to, say, torture cats in order to stay sane. Maybe even with variations, so each species member requires a different domestic (or, in particularly unfortunate cases, non-domestic) species.

Or have time off to paint pictures or something, I'unno. Elves would have to get within X distance of a tree or go bonkers or somethin', I guess. Desert elf embark for extra fun :3

Dwarf Fortress - a game whose status metrics need to be displayed on a logarithmic scale. That's just how Toady rolls apparently, leaping up orders of magnitude at a time.

In very short retrospect, I actually think the fact that DF creatures are currently incapable of feeling hope is perhaps one of the more interesting parts of that devlog. Poor Tzeentch. There'll be no foothold in these worlds.

I think that the point where dwarves actually become capable of experiencing hope and dread might be the point where DF becomes slightly uncomfortable to play.

So, I forgot to mention that I was the boss at work today, despite not only my boss being there, but also the regional LP dude. LP dude decided to take a turn on the registers for absolutely no reason, and I did three entry interviews today for seasonal hiring. O_o

I would argue that creatures are sentient in the current version of DF, though there's shaky ground for that.

Next version, however, the creatures in DF are going to be sentient by every definition I can find for the word. Exciting times.
