Loud music and annoying guys is not a fun time. I don't even want to think about that with alcohol involved...

Imagine that but the guys are much more tactless than they would be otherwise.

I only really started drinking the summer after I graduated from high school. Believe it or not, having four or five friends at a way-hoo out on the lake is a lot more fun than trying to hold conversations with girls without them going "YEAH DID YOU KNOW I HAVE A BOYFRIEND WE'VE BEEN LIVING TOGETHER FOR LIKE 4 MONTHS."

Aesop: getting drunk is only fun if you do it with people you can stand sober.

Oh yeah, happy. I had a sleep over at my grandma's house for my birthday and we watched Guardians of the Galaxy together.

Cotton Candy 7-up is also apparently a thing?

(I am a highschooler, never have had a drink. Not planning on it either.)

School dances.

Can someone tell me what the good part of a school dance is?

I thought this was the Happy thread.
Now I'm all sad and angsty and homesick, and I'm sitting at home beside my bed.
Thanks for the memories, school parties. I really didn't need those.

I'm sorry...

"Getting life experience" is all I can muster up as a reason. I sorta understand it. I mean, prom was crap, but it was still an experience. At least I learned it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. If anything, it's more a means of getting people together to BS, than to actually dance.

Parties are okay, provided you can find people you can relate to; otherwise, it's a reason to get drunk, and see what happens.

See, it's funny, because I actually enjoy ballroom dance(and yes, we have a club for that at my school).  But what goes on at dances isn't even dancing, it's just a lot of jumping up and down.

Yeah; less people know how to dance than you think. If you lack dancing skill or experience, don't feel bad. Based on this, neither does everyone else. You won't look out of place if you're as silly as your surroundings. Consider it my advice for the shy in this regard.

The first one we got drunk, danced, played vidja games, and watched anime.
The second one we were on a beach, got drunk, and built a huge bonfire.
They were both really fun.

OK, yes, big bonfires.
THOSE are really fun.

Had a really big one the summer-before-last, where the wood was piled to twice my height (I'm half-and-inch shy of 6 feet) before it was even lit, and the flames managed to go three times that.

I helped carry some of the wood. There was at least three logs that took three healthy strong teenagers together to carry to the pile, each.

The ground was so wet (edge of a boggy river) that we were going barefoot at first, and we had mud coating our knees from sinking into it. By the time the fire died down to coals, we were standing on dry ground, with dirt flaking off our legs. We dusted ourselves off, put our shoes back on, and hiked back to camp, and you really couldn't tell from looking at us that we had been in mud.

Bonfires are something happy.

Heh, on the subject of school dances...

Where I grew up, there was the tradition of chaperones being out on the floor, pushing couples apart if they thought they were dancing too closely, telling them to "Leave room for Jesus." The best moment I've ever had at a dance was when a girl I was dancing with and I looked at each other for a moment after getting one of those, and then asked the chaperone if Jesus was really into threesomes that much.
