Yeah, 5e has basically become the vehicle for all our hopes and dreams.

I'm a bit late to the "disguising character as another character type" discussion, but my favorite idea is disguising a 3.5 sorcerer as a wizard.

I'd lean a bit more towards the Sir Bearington path. Play a completely mundane asshole Rogue, massively pump up your Bluff, UMD, and Disguise, dress and act like the worst wizard stereotypes (wear a dress -- not robes with lace trim, a flowery frock, covered in nasty stains; carry around belt pouches full of filth and call them spell components, berate every spellcaster you meet about how they're inferior; do the same to every non-spellcaster you meet but for different reasons, &c), and rely on your three key skills to convince everyone you meet that you're actually a wizard.

Better yet, play it so close to your chest that only the DM is aware of it. When you inevitably get to the point where a real wizard would be able to stop some catastrophe or foil the BBEG's plan, pull the reveal that you're really just a dickish scam artist. Then continue to convince every NPC that you're a great wizard and condescend to the other characters when they try to convince NPCs otherwise.

Obviously this is only viable if you're not sitting close enough for your fellow players to hit you.

@D&D discussion:
I started playing D&D with 4e, which me and my friends really enjoyed. It was an enjoyable fantasy romp/beat the shit out of everything game.
Then I tried to force 3.5e down their throats, and that didn't work. But I kept trying for months.
Now I'm trying to get them to play 5e with me. But they won't come to the games.

As a system, I really like 5e. I don't think that it's quality is a question any more. It's really good. I've got the PHB next to me, and let me list some of its awesome features:

• The image on the very first page is of a black dude TWFing some goblins. I want his hat. (A full picture in all its glory is on page 188.)
• Most of the races have subraces, most of which are mechanically unique.
• All classes have at least two subclasses. These in themselves are often rather customizable.
• Fighters are not boring to play anymore.
• Monks are fucking awesome. All the stuff that they had to drop tons of feats into: all class features. Deflect Missiles? Class feature. Actually cool Ki powers? Class features. Tripping/grappling? Class features.
• Nature/Old gods paladins.
• Sorcerers get a miscast chart, if they take the Wild Magic subclass. One of the results is "You grow a long beard made of feathers that remains until you sneeze, at which point the feathers explode out from your face." Another is "You turn into a potted plant"
• Warlocks are a base class.
• The most interesting wizard school, Divination, has been made to feel like an actual fortune teller.
• Feats are attractive alternatives to ability score increases.
• I'm sorry, but My Name is Immaterial is too busy rubbing his face in all them spells to take your call. Can I take a message?

Have a druid with Call Lightning do your stage effects. And hey, if you're an evil cleric, that can double as your on-cue dramatic lightning whenever you feel the need to laugh or make ominous statements. Obviously you can't do it yourself, because you're a STAR/have minions for that.

Then stop beinh awful at it, TF2 isnt actually hard or hard to learn as long as you play on servers where people are about as good as you are. (i suck with all classes that arent pyro though)
