The Illiad would make a nice tabletop gaming campaign.

And when I was planning out my ill-fated Battlestar: Artemis Aurora campaign, each star system was going to be an "episode" of sorts, with a plot loosely based on the twelve labors of Hercules. At least until you reached Kobol, then it was going to be ten systems based on the Sephiroth until you reached Earth.

*sigh* Maybe someday I'll have the time and impetus to try that again.

Heh, I'm in the process of busting out my newby D&D skills. I barely have the hang of playing. But meh, it was me or no one.

I've not played DnD for a long while. I remember I'd always play a spellcaster who didn't look like one. Well, there was that one time, but that went poorly.

So far I'm sane enough to stay away from D&D and forum RPGames. When I finally lose it and try to run a game there someone please stop me, for the sake of your SAN scores.

Then you get cities like Paris where you should basically just kill yourself already.

I made the poor decision of starting a campaign right before I started working on my thesis. I'm already having to ignore life-affecting responsibilities for it, and now I feel bad for neglecting updates as well. :x

Silly, you can't keep use Bay12 and keep your... keep... SAN score...

What. The. Heck.

You just made an RPG reference after saying you stay away from them.

O_o

Anyway, I prefer to play spellcasters and offset their power by intentionally optimizing badly (read: Wizards with magic missile, sorcerers who have shit spells, or specializing in evocation, necromancy, or enchantment.) or playing martial classes in comedic or fantasy ripoff reference situations. Almost never apply templates unless I need to keep on par with everybody else.

Actually, you can make a pretty darned good blaster sorcerer if you use a lot of Orb spells.

Actually, a homebrew D&D setting based in mythological Greece/Mediterranean Sea sounds really fun, especially if you go the full distance with the worldbuilding and mythology. Your lands over the horizon would be expies of Egypt, Britannia, and the Persian Empire.

I'm actually working on a setting that's equal parts Aztec, Ancient Greek, and Sumerian, TBH.

Word today wasn't as hard as I was predicting. We got to rehire an employee I've enjoyed working with in the past (though my other co-workers call her a pathalogical liar, based on her stories of her ex-boyfriends), and she was in a pretty good mood too. She doesn't have as many classes this year, though she is still on the volleyball team and can't work late like last year.
My boss also brought in his daughter to help; she's normally a realtor, I heard (Can't tell if he's joking, he's got a stranger sense of humor than I), so she's only helping for a few days, but her help is appreciated greatly.
And also, the guy who took a vacation at the very last minute is actually back; right on time.

On the other hand, bad news in the sad thread.

That's the thing, though. A blaster sorcerer is the weakest kind of sorcerer.

I prefer battlefield control or buffs over direct damaging spells.

Partly because I have poor luck with blasts, and have killed allies with a poorly aimed fireball, and partly because I once killed a dragon with just a wall of stone and really want to do something ridiculous like that again.

Yes, obviously primary casters are vastly better as buff/debuff/battlefield control gods, but the point was that you can spec a sorcerer for damage in a way that isn't entirely shit. Y'know, if you're in a situation where you want to play a caster without eventually making 95% of potential problems irrelevant. Of course I'm past the point of ever wanting to play a caster in a low-starting-level campaign without Pathfinder-style cantrips because seriously fuck that noise, if I wanted to RP a useless load I would have made a commoner.
