Better than this is to ensure that it has a simple, easily derived diminutive/abbreviated form which is not overly remarkable. Have your cake and let the little'un decide on their own terms whether they want to eat it or change it when they're of age without having their childhood ruined. That aside, given how easily people are confused over culturally normal names with plenty of history behind them (no personal experience speaking here, no sir!), it's not like it's going to be that much different as long as you're using names that still sound like names and which are phonetically functional.

Of course if you name your kid something like 'La - a' or 'Evangelion Unit 01', that's valid grounds for them to murder you once they're old enough. :V

In any case, congrats you two!

Also, I think middle names are a good place for unusual/obtuse/awesome names, with a relatively normal first name. That way they can choose whether to be noticed or not. One of my good friends' middle name is Zeno. And we did a pretty old traditional Southern thing for my daughter where her middle name is her mother's maiden name (which she never changed when we got married). So it's almost like one of those pretentious hyphenated names, but without the snobbery.

Also also, congrats on the daughter! Just think of all the fun you get to have about 13-14 years from now when she starts dating, and you take the young lad aside and show him all your facepunching trophies. Just as a friendly warning.

Though yeah, on the name thing, give them something to remember you well by, but only if you don't expect to live to the point there's a strong likelihood they'll be your primary source of care. Zero intention of having kids, personally, but I was always fond of Taro Pantyhose <Lastname>. No less than three vectors of torment in that one. Bull, toilet paper, and the obvious.

As the resident liberal scumbag, I feel it is my duty to say "It's not your place to tell your daughter who she can and can't sleep with, it is your duty to provide your daughter (or son) with the information needed to be safe, and it is hoped that you have raised your daughter to know who's a good person and who would just be using her."

Honestly it can feel a little scummy, to me, for a dad to act as some sort of gate-keeper of his daughters vagina :V

Protecting her is one thing, but if the guy doesn't actually hurt her, it's kind of weird.
