Found the second poem I wrote, from towards the end of last summer. Thought I'd lost it 

It's about Dwarves, too. My first was about humans and birds, so not as fun at all.

Might as well post it to balance out the other one on the sad thread. Apologies to those, like Janet, who don't like poems. Or my poems.

In halls of old ‘neath mountain hold
There came a light which rent the night

It sang to me, a glimmering hoard
Of gold and jewels and silver cord;
My dreams were caught on Dwarven things
Like gleaming coins and golden rings

The Silent Dwarves were master smiths,
Their art now fading into myths.
As into shade their kingdoms fade
The Silence takes the crafts they made

Far from their home they delve new deeps
They make new strong and sturdy keeps.
No more gold from the forges old,
Nor crafts made of the ancient mould!

And still I stand in halls of gold
‘Neath pillars carved by Dwarves of old
To look like trees in stony breeze
Which spread their limbs and golden leaves

Those halls which in their previous years
Saw many fights and shedded tears
Remember woes and fallen foes
Who fell on floor where fountain flows

In olden days those floors were made,
Before blood stained them darkly red,
By Elders clad in silver clothes
From whom the Dwarven kingdom rose

They’re gone, they’re gone; their days are done,
From dark they fled to cruel sun.
Allowed no rest they travelled west
And left their gold in gleaming chest.

They made their way through vale and field
To places new where grave wounds healed.
From grass and ground there came the sound
Of Dwarven picks in loamy mound.

And still I stand in halls of gold
‘Neath pillars carved by Dwarves of old
To look like trees in stony breeze
Which spread their limbs and golden leaves

From forges fire there comes a blade,
From Dwarven strength the sword is made-
A feat ne’er seen ‘neath mountains feet
Nor ever made by fire’s heat.


The time of peace has come and gone,
Its place now in a mournful song
For bards to sing to Dwarven king
As day fades into evening.

The vengeful Dwarves make many things,
As hammer strikes on hanging rings,
In which is strung and glowing hung
The light of stars in iron rung.

Alas for Dwarves of olden days
Whose craft first tamed those golden rays!
Their art now shows as weapon glows
With light like that of fiery rose.

And still I stand in halls of gold
‘Neath pillars carved by Dwarves of old
To look like trees in stony breeze
Which spread their limbs and golden leaves

I read this as "balls of gold" at first.

I don't know why but this picture makes me happy.

I can think of a pretty simple explanation...

I just used my gaydar on trolls in Fortbent. 27 gay trolls, 33 straight trolls, 81 bisexual trolls, 10 asexual trolls. Overall, just as I want it, within margins of error. Yay! Two things both work as I intend them to!

Also, this is my second gay adventurer in a row. That's fascinating.

EDIT: That's three gay adventurers in a row. Uh. This is starting to get somewhat suspicious, especially given that there's an 80% chance that any given troll will like the opposite sex (and an equal chance of them liking the same sex) and especially since the first adventurer was a dwarf, who only have a 3.7% chance or so to be gay (I.E this all has a .1% chance of happening). Continuing to get research...

EDIT 2: p=0.0002 that all adventurers are gay. Now this isn't something that I was expecting.

EDIT 3: I think that the first flag in the bitfield might be "adventurer". Let me check with a female (that could be skewing my results). Yep. Females like males. I was wrong about that, gotta fix the gaydar. Gaydar's broken, nothing to see here. My random selection was basically "letting the game choose for me", which happened to get me males 5 times in a row, so I switched to female for the last one. Whoops.

I mean, you can make them such, and they probably would die out, yeah.

EDIT: I've decided to start a fort in Fortbent and oh man do people have a lot more character now. Vriska Herket is a lime-blooded troll who is, in general, a pretty crude person, immodest, brash, unfriendly, unenvious, doesn't care what others think. There are only three men on this embark so far, and one of them is asexual, which means that out of these 7, Sverfr Frefla is the only one compatible. Unfortunately for Vriska, Sverfr has zero self-esteem and loves altruism though he finds it foolish (due to cognitive dissonances regarding the culture he lives in). However, Sverfr isn't one to hate so quickly. Fortunately for Vriska, Vriska isn't all that interested in romance, unlike others of his race who in general consider romance one of the highest ideals.

I actually find it interesting, this sample size of only 7. Out of all of them, only 4 of them are interested in males while 5 are interested in females. Absolutely none of them are exclusively straight, so that's something. Almost half are exclusively gay and one's asexual. What that means for me is that I'd better friggin get some migrants, hehe.

Interesting, though, is that being exclusively straight and exclusively gay are the same chance. The fact that there's only the one male who's willing to marry anyone is also interesting.
