Somehow, I actually agree with LSP on this one, as I use "they" a lot, even if I don't realize I'm doing it, and nobody's complained before.

Why give up when the solution is so...simple?
Call them by what they want to be called without malice or ulterior motive in both parties. :v

Or if you're wrong, let them correct you. xD I've had that many times here and...well, they just corrected the pronoun and we were totally fine.

I went *scratchy scratchy* then there were times it turned around and raised its paw-midway or went *nip nip bite?* but it didn't do it aggressively, just like 'I'm warning you'.

And in the next instance its all 'mmmm~ scratch me there-ahh~'

I agree with you there just use the word you think is right of it's wrong the other person will correct you and you can continue the conversation problem is you don't want to encourage people that make up pronouns just to be difrent

On a more serious note, I use "they" a lot, as well. I often talk about people without mentioning their gender, not really sure why.
