pretty much i cant think of anything that makes the current system better so may as well go for consistency

The current system is better in that case because it's what's been used for a relatively loooong time.
No point changing it just to match with a different set of things.

Well, I can't fault your logic. And consistency is pretty hard to argue against, honestly.

Except in the case of neon-green stop signs.
