Oh my gods, I am glad this conversation happened.
Now I've found this list, and whilst there are a lot of games on there that I've never seen nor heard of, enough of them are familiar to make me really happy.
Seriously, I'd forgotten about some of those. I might just have to track them down someday, although playing Vagrant Story, Tombi and Heart of Darkness might actually bring on lethal levels of nostalgia. It'd be worth it, though.

I played so much Fighting Force, wow, that's a great list!

And yeah, I remember Fighting Force being awesome, even if I never could get past a certain level back then.
They don't make enough good beat-'em-ups like that any more... or platformers, for that matter.

I just watched Ashens and The Quest For The Game Child.

I'd expect goblins to be asexual, both mentally and physically.

They reproduce in the dark fortress using methods too horrifying that no one sane had seen it.
