Aside from Samus? We have the three other bounty hunters from Prime 3, everyone from Hunters, Dark Samus, and SA-X. All of them could either be slight variations of Samus (sorta like how Fox has two clones) or entirely different.

Robin is slightly different. Robin is the custom player avatar in Fire Emblem Awakening, and can be male or female. I don't think they're different characters, you can just choose which gender you want.

Funny story with Metroid. I inherited an NES a couple years back and seven or eight games with it; I had the first three Mario games, Duck Hunt, a few I don't remember, and the original Metroid game. I hadn't heard of the game before, so when I read the instruction manual, I thought Samus was a dude for years until I looked up a walkthrough of the game on the internet.

It's like the original release of the game, ya know?

Anyway, I personally wish that they'd incorporate a character from some ridiculous, obscure NES game where the main character had some ludicrous, anglicized name, just to mess with people.

ROB and Game & Watch don't count.

They're from Fire Emblem Awakening Yoink. The one that came out last year and became outrageously popular to the point that it literally saved the franchise

Oh. I wouldn't know.
Still, Fire Emblem seems like such a painfully bland game to be pulling more characters from.
Why not add Joanna Dark (preferably the original version) as a Snake-like character? Or Conker, complete with a f***load of "bleeps" as the entirety of his dialogue? Or, even better, Banjo and Kazooie? Man, I would probably wet my pants with excitement if the last one ever happened.

I guess those are all Rare characters, though, which probably complicates things on the legal side.
...Now that I think of it, most of the good Nintendo franchises I can remember that don't already have characters in the game were ports from other systems. Well. That realization kinda makes me sad. Maybe they should just say "screw it" and make Miis a playable character?
