Got a statistics kerjigger going in Python with far more trouble than should've been involved. I knew precision errors were playing a role due to the very large numbers that crop up whenever you do much of anything with factorials, but it took hours to figure out that I needed to use the integer division operator instead of the one that automatically spits out a float. But it's done, and everything looks as expected.

So I just made Mount and Blade have a mini seizure.  I'm currently talking to my own character, who thinks he's the king of the Rhodoks, and I told him that I had met myself in my travels, which he promptly thinks is a claimant speech the other kings have.  I went to ask him where a King was (since a random faction had popped up and I was confused) and was given "Error - this unit should not exist in the game," twice, along with King Graveth.  If I asked him what he was doing he actually says "I don't know: ERROR (0 Ergellon Castle)."  Also this was all started after I talked to a traveling farmer with 0 units in it.

I can't stop smiling right now.

...that's so freakin awesome. I salute you.

Yeah, heh. I was just mentioning how Wolfenstein the new order is massive when you install it. My steam copy is taking up about 40-50 gb.

The gameplay video I have seen of Wolfenstein doesn't look like something that would require that much data.

Then again, it seems like with higher texture definition, the size increase exponentially.

I'm pretty sure textures take up more HD space than anything else (sometimes more than everything else combined) on the majority of games, especially graphically intensive/AAA games.

Consider that one texture file is typically larger than the geometry and animation data of the 3d model it's being placed on... and any 3d object that the player is going to see frequently or prominently will have at least 3 textures applied to it.

It's the combination of two factors, for one the PC version has actual decent resolution textures for the environment. Two, IDtech uses what they call megatextures, which instead of having several individual files in a container file like most games instead sticks all the textures for an area of the game into a large file that it streams from as needed.

The combination of both means the texture files are very high resolution images that can't be heavily compressed without losing lots of image fidelity.
