Playing 2 yes, and I don't think you need to go there. And the bell towers seem like you can miss them anyway.

Its optional, though you get an item in one of the bells that helps a lot in a place that is less optional.

Yaay, defeated the Bell Gargoyles, killed the Titanite demon at the entrance to Darkroot, and I've killed the Black Knight in Darkroot basin. Alas, I seem to be lost.... I think I head to the place with the skeletons? Eh, I'm having fun anyway.

Went to my aunts' wedding at the most beautiful place on this planet, hung out with cousins who I barely get to see, and ate cheese and crackers like there's no tomorrow.
