I had a dream last night, about pokemon of all things, but this was more a scary dream, like if Pokemon and the SCP Foundation had an awful baby.
Basically, the dream revolved around the discovery of a place that's been secretly holding things called "Prison Balls" which look exactly like pokeballs, except there's no button or way to release the pokemon inside. So, whereas a normal pokeball is meant to capture and befriend a pokemon and use it for the cockfighting sport that your society is built around, these pokeballs are only meant to permanently remove the captured Pokemon from nature for all time.
The discovered place that has these, doesn't just have a couple, but thousands and thousands of them hidden away in an underground warehouse stretching in every direction for miles, that is a secret to the rest of society, and kept under heavy surveillance by armed guards.
The primary caretaker, or the warden if you will, explains that in ancient times the nebulous forces surrounding pokemon's creation and evolution wound up creating true, terrifying monsters. Allowed to run rampant, these ones would surely drive humanity extinct, and it was old pokemon masters of yore that managed to capture these ones and it was their job to keep them locked away for all time.
But then there was an accident of some kind, and one of the pokemon got released. It was just a small, harmless looking thing, but then started multiplying through a mitosis-esque process, over and over and over. The implication was that it was going to continue until the whole planet was covered in them, which would subsequently strangle out every other life form on the planet. Before it was allowed to get to that point though, the warden hit a mechanism to detonate an explosive, destroying his portion of the warehouse and himself, but otherwise quarantining the threat.
I woke up at around that point, but I thought I'd share it. Pretty sure there's an actual SCP with that description or similar.
