Seriously, though, it's because the definition of marriage, as it is now, is a legal, emotional, spiritual and/or religious bond between a man and a woman. Going back into history, even in countries where homosexual pederasty(basically pedophilia) was  considered the norm, marriage was considered something separate.

In actual happy news, my life seems to be fully back on track. I've hit my stride in school, I only have one teacher who hates me, only one class that I hate, I have a complete grip on my depression, I have plans to get involved majorly in my community, and much more.

My community plans involve a local church beginning a major Spanish outreach program, and they need Spanish speakers. I am an excellent Spanish speaker (one of the native speakers at my school tells me that it's weird talking to me because I look Gringo but I don't sound Gringo]), so happies there.

It seems you're arguing about definitions and semantics. That's easily bypassed if it's really a big deal. We could just make "civil unions" be the legal equivalent of what marriage is now (and be inclusive of gays), and no longer have marriage be a legal term whatsoever. Problem solved.
