Not derailing, just saying my piece, the 'titans' in Titanfall can be killed by a lone man carrying small arms, as in handguns and SMGs.  To kill a Battlemech your infantry had better be carrying heavy demolition charges and be prepared to intercept several dozen tons of metal and weapons moving at significant speed.

So they're more like MAXes from Planetside 2, or Exosuit from Natural Selection 2, where you're more of an amped-up armored human rather than a Godzilla-fighting robot, right?

That is definitely one way of looking at it, I was actually very excited by the initial press for the game, but after the devs mouthed off I just said 'nope'.

And a bolo would roll over both of them like they're so many paraplegic squirrels laid out in the middle of a busy highway. Interseries dick waving is best taken to the crossover thread... or spacebattles :P

Though there is legitimate worry involved with the devs describing BT mechs like that. Says they don't quite grok the concept of tank on legs. Which is a bit of a shame, but hey, the people these days seem to want more of the fairly standardized shooter formula, so...

In all seriousness, armored core was pretty decent and more of its ilk isn't a bad thing. I do prefer my giant mecha with a bit of weight behind them, but good ol' real robots are fine, too. Good excuse to stick more dakka on the player's avatar, hopefully.

Think CoD with giant mechs and jetpacks.
CoD being... I'm guessing call of duty? Or just a generic FPS-type thing.
Yep.

So basically a new release of Armored Core? Or... something more?
Well, think more combined arms, like Battlefield, with mechs and infantry, on a map sized for 6 infantry/mechs + bots vs. 6 infantry/mechs + bots. Judging from Wikipedia, the mechs act sorta like Armored Core, while the infantry act like a standard FPS, with jetpacks and parkour elements.

Ah ha. Mixed scale combat on the same map is something I haven't seen very often (though, to be fair, that's mostly because I've never really had a computer capable of running any of the games that do it :P). Not something I'd (be able to, natch) play, but sounds like it might be neat if they pull it off.

I will say, though, for a second I thought you were saying it was like Combined Arms, an old(ish) Infantry zone. Now that? If someone brought CA into a modern engine, I would be over that in seconds. CA was glorious.

Since Bolos roll over everything due to ridiculous OP, I think that's an unfair assessment, I'm not into the E-peen thing, titans die to small arms fire, 'Mechs take salvoes of dozens of missiles and blast you in the face with a gauss rifle, bolos ignore anything not dealing thousands of megatons per second and level whole mountains to reach a lone target.  I just didn't like the devs' attitude, they said they wanted to make a giant robot game, and instead made an FPS with huge lumbering targets.  If they had said, "We wanted to change the dynamics of robot combat, by making three dimensional movement more important." I'd have been fine, but they insulted the franchise functionally responsible for western 'Mech culture, and that was too much for me.

New computer parts go on order tommorow. Cost about 1300$, but I'll not have to upgrade for a while. Finally, I can get off this cardboard box they call a computer.

I think it would be nice if you actually could time your steps in your giant mech, and if you're on one leg your balance is lower. So if you see an incoming grapple or collision, or a missile headed your way, you could stand still for a second to help stop yourself from getting knocked over.

Just a little thing I guess. But if they paid attention to that kind of detail, it might mean they paid attention to a lot of other details which I would also appreciate.

After it took about a month to get the courses I need to take, I've finally submitted another application for university. Let's see how this goes.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Watched Oblivion again (Sky has it on Sky Premier! Yay!).

I like the film. It also has Morgan Freeman, who is one of my favourite actors.
Yeah it's nice to see Tom Cruise devoting himself to science fiction.

He did that long ago, he's a Scientologist after all.
War of the Worlds, anyone?

Heh. Just remembered an argument which broke out over youtube about whether Tripods or ME Reapers were more terrifying.
Silly inflammatory people.
