Some might think it belongs in the sad thread, but it made me grin.

I have to say, I feel like this thread is a select few people having a conversation about trivialities, occasionally peppered with someone trying to share good news, who is then thoroughly ignored. There's been many times I've tried to share genuinely awesome news on here which has not garnered me so much as a "wow, good for you," and I've seen many other people make similar "invisible" posts. I rediscovered a play I wrote (and had successfully performed) four years ago, based on the same story which is now a major motion picture. I thought maybe someone would be interested, maybe even want to read it... It wouldn't be a big deal, really, if it was just a bunch of people listing good things that made them happy, but there are people in here responding to each other. But only responding to certain people and ignoring the rest. I guess that's not what I expected when I first saw something labeled "the happy thread," given the positive reputation this forum community has. It's distressingly similar to the feeling of trying to join a conversation way back in high school and being instantly shut out because I wasn't "part of the group." And surely I'll find other places to get my congratulations, like real life friends - I just felt the need to call to everyone's attention that it's become a surprisingly clique-y atmosphere in this thread, and I'd be willing to bet I'm not the only one who's felt like an outsider just for trying to share good news here. And while I'm lucky enough to have good real-life friends who support me, there might be some people who really do need the boost of knowing someone is with them when it comes to their good news, who might be truly hurt by being ignored here.

Sorry.

I didn't do it maliciously. I just kind of... Thought someone else would respond to it?

I've never really gotten the hang of reading scripts so all I'd be able to do was "Yay for you" because I wouldn't have been able to read it and tell you what I thought about it. I thought it'd be too hollow of me.

I'm not sure what you're actually complaining about. People aren't obligated to actively pay attention to every single other post or member on the forum. This topic isn't any different.

We just vent happiness here. Some people simply talk about it. I'm sorry you feel that way but we're not really obligated to discuss ALL of what gets posted here. It happens naturally and weirdly.

There are 21 views for every post in this thread. Just because people don't directly respond to you, doesn't mean they don't care.
Also, the Happy Thread, to me at least, seems to be (next to being the happy thread) the general (not always very sensical*) discussion of the general discussion forums. Which I do not see as a bad thing at all.

I do agree that feeling like you're just talking past people sucks, but I think that's inevitable in a forum. Contact is just not direct enough.

The whole lower boards is a little bit cliqueish.  It's true.  But that's just natural in any social atmosphere.  The people that have been around and made themselves highly visible for a long time are just going to be noticed more than others for a variety of reasons that aren't anyone's fault, and I don't think there's anything that can be done about that.  Not here or anywhere.  Not unless everyone becomes anonymous.

But I also think it's a matter of luck and timing.  I've seen lesser known posters get large amounts of spontaneous attention plenty of times.  It all depends on the formula of who's watching, who's posting, and how fast the threads are moving.  Sometimes people who are normally highly noticed don't get any response when they post something big, because their post just gets buried before many people can see it and not everyone reads back to see if they've missed anything.

Huh... I just looked it up. It's not. Nonsensical is apparently only a word because Noam Chomsky used it in that colorless green colors sleeping furiously thing.

I think often it is the case that somebody posts something happy the the general response would be "Wow, yea, that is really good!", except that is sort of just implied. It doesn't actually end in conversation. That doesn't mean we don't care, simply that we have nothing to add really. As opposed to what are often just trivial matters, except they invite discussion.

If you have a happy, share it, we all enjoy the circlehug, but if you are looking for a reply that isn't how you go about it.

It's Nonsense+ical (and while sensical is obviously not a word, nonsense is), and it predates Noam Chomsky using it by quite a long time.
