Pharaoh and Ceasar III were a lot better than Zeus, though. I reinstall and replay Pharaoh about every few years.

My 3 faves are Emperor, Zeus and Pharaoh.

Emperor for being most advanced one, Zeus for nostalgia and easy-to-use editor, and Pharaoh for, well, it was my first game of the series.

I never got into Caesar, even III looked (imho) finicky and boring.

I never played any of the others, although I heard of Pharaoh. Maybe I should pick it up.

Caesar IV is still harder than I expected it to be.

Pharaoh is an interesting step up from Caesar because of the addition of monuments/pyramids. Setting up a town isn't too difficult with practice, but in Pharaoh you frequently have the objectives to devote large amounts of your labour to either producing or importing clay bricks and stone blocks. That along with food produce frequently being tied to the flooding of the Nile I felt put a nice amount of stress on your cities economy.

Plus the addition of road blocks, that is a major improvement over the gatehouses of Caesar III.

Caesar III is hard, mostly because controlling the wandering units requires careful road layouts. Also fires early on. Missions usually have a choice between an economy based or military based one.

The series is quite impressive for how little they changed with their base mechanics, with most changes being the addition of things like the aforementioned roadblocks and better resource control.

Emperor's vast amount of resources, actually interesting diplomacy and three technological periods sold me for it :P I also liked building monuments there whilst carefully maintaining the amount and quality of foods whilst using Sun Tzu to find those damn spies who kept stealing my silk.

And so on. My only woe with that game is that the name list is locked, so making your own adventures is very limited.

EDIT: AlleeCat, speaking of hidden music, did you ever find Ekplixi? :P

Unsecure future of East vs West was kind of a sad for the past few days, but I'm optimistic.

What turned that into happy is the announcement of HoI 4. :D

Gregorian "Sound of Silence."

They also have "We Will Rock You" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," amongst others.
... This is good. This is much good.

So gorram happy to be off Drug Court. I can not even adequately explain it. So. Happeh.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

No, I didn't. I never was one to look through game files when I was younger, but with Warcraft II the track was a cheat, so of course I knew about it.

I can now say with certainty I've beaten the main quests of Morrowind and its expansions on a minimally modded playthrough. So, without further ado...

Well, I got one of my stories accepted into a publication.
Which is great news.

The bad news is that it was a certain kind of story, going into a certain kind of publication.
I feel like a writer in the same way that I'm sure a few women feel like 'actresses'.

Workloads were kinda light this week, so I'm enjoying a sort of unofficial extended weekend. YAY!

Also, a couple weeks until cake day.

Speaking of Warcraft II...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Haha, I remember that. :))

Also, you guys have reminded me of Pharaoh- I remember having to play that game in High School, oddly enough. Can't remember what class.
It was great fun and I'll have to track it down somehow. Where would I get it, is it on GoG?
