Lots and lots of things.  Consider purchasing a Nest learning thermostat, for example.  Or, if you don't like the Apple branding, ecobee, though honestly Nest is probably a better device.

My home computer is rated for 700w but by disabling the graphics card for doing server work my box only burns 200w/hr and equates to 50 cents a day to run it.

Huh. So a whole $37.50 (ish) difference in your monthly bill. I wonder what other things can be "downgraded" around the house...

Amongst others. x3

Managed to buy AoE II from the flash sale *literally* the last minute. Commenced weeping for my free time.

9 pm Sydney fire works were pretty good, so looking forward to the midnight ones. It is, as always, going to be even bigger this year.

If you like pyrotechnics and can find a live feed it should be worth it.

Also, stating the obvious, but watch out with standby modes. Most electronic devices use up to 50% of their normal consumption on standby. Hell, some even use 100%.

To the left: CPU load before disabling GUI.
To the right: CPU load after disabling GUI.

Awesome! My netbook is not only quiet but also not blazing hot now!

that's either 1 or 100%

i am honestly not surprised if your netbook was blazing hot at 140% cpu load

if it was 1.4% though seriously reconsider using it in the current state

2.0 means I'm at 200% load, ie full capacity. 0.20 means I'm at 20% load, which is actually only 10% of the actual capacity, since it's a dual-core machine.
