Seriously, if I remember correctly they got ~10% of the vote in the election where they got no seats, but the voters were too spread-out.

If only there was a simple system that was fair... Like say, for N total votes and K seats, one seat is rewarded for every N/K votes. Why bother with FPTP?

I also just bit the bullet and bought Europa Universalis IV in the steam sale. I always buy boxed retail but I want to exploit the delicious benefits of the save converter and the ability to play online with the majority of players. At least now I can "correct" a few events in history that I disagree with and have fun while I'm doing it. If anyone wishes to have a game let me know, though my paradox experience only goes as far as HOI3.

If only there was a simple system that was fair... Like say, for N total votes and K seats, one seat is rewarded for every N/K votes. Why bother with FPTP?

I think some countries (germany?) have each party publish a "Candidate list" of sorts, and you vote for the party. The seats are then divided among the parties proportionally, and if they get, say, 5 seats, then their top 5 candidates on that list get a seat.
