I have discovered that I am entirely too amused by people spontaneously breaking out into sea shanties.

And even beyond that, it's just about the most boring application of the applicable statistical reasoning algorithms that one could imagine...

If your goal is monetary gain, you use them for investment strategies by working at an investment management company or similar; that's one of the fastest ways to get really high pay as a programmer.

If you have more interesting goals, you apply them to scientific datasets and learn about things which would be entirely invisible with a more mundane perspective.
