I watched pacific rim last night with some of my friends, and I loved it so much.

There are some minor problems (nothing that you wouldn't expect in a giant mech vs godzilla genre though) with some science things, but I suspended my disbelief very purposefully, so it worked out fine.
One of my friends didn't though, and he had such a terrible time it was hillarious.

The action was all good, and there was a sense of scale in all the battles (eg. you could tell that all the robots were 100 feet tall, and that the punches were strong enough to bust down a building).
It stayed rather standard to many mecha tropes, but I didn't really feel like that it was a huge problem.

Hemmed a skirt at record speed!  I've gotten a lot faster.  Only took a couple hours this time, and I bet I could learn to do it in 20-30 minutes.

(It's ankle-length, so there is quite a bit of fabric to deal with)

But was it a giant mecha skirt? :)

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Ah ha ha, I went back this morning, even though I knew I'd have to drop the last match to get to work on time. When you pull 3 Dark Favors, 1 Divine Favor, 2 Auramancers, 1 Shadowborn Demon, 1 Liliana's Reaver, and 1 Lifebane Zombie, and a bunch of quality B and W mooks and a touch of removal, a lot of matches feel almost like cheating. I'd go again tonight, but I'd only have about 10 minutes to build a deck and I don't really want to spend that much money. I've given into too much temptation already.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'd say we need a MTG thread but all our MTG threads end up dying, I believe. Sort of like book threads.

Been reading Franken Fran for the first time today. I'm already on Volume 5. Though I say 'already,' I suppose I also haven't left my chair in about 6 hours...

I loved Franken-Fran when i read it. Although it occurred to me that maybe i shouldn't be eating a bowl of cereal while reading it.

You know, they said that about the music threads and the current one seems to work out pretty well anyway...

I too love Franken Fran. I found out about her on Gurochan. I wonder if I should read it again. I don't know, maybe after I watch the second half of Eden of the East.

Naw, just regular old grey wool.

Just finished the second season of Futurama as well, coincidentally.  The hardest thing about being a newly minted adult is that there's so much stuff I want to watch and read now that I've become smart enough to enjoy it.

EDIT: Watching these excerpts from Swan Lake was a legitimately transcendent experience for me.
