I only ever say either in an ironic, or at least very forced sense. I think maybe once or twice I've said 'mate' unironically, that's about it. And even then it felt weird, afterwards, when I realized I'd said it.

And no, they're not identical. While solar power is using the light from a fusion reactor the power doesn't actually come from the reactor itself. Also modern nuclear power plants are fission reactors, not fusion. We can't produce a stable fusion reaction with a net energy gain yet.

I live in Indiana, and... I hear "y'all" and "all y'all" all the time.  Backwater hickish rural types say "y'all" and ghetto urban types are more likely to break out the full "all y'all".  Most people don't talk that way, but there are plenty of people around who play completely into one or the other stereotype in their body language and manner of speaking.  In my office right now there is a dead-on loud, sassy black lady (all y'all) and a lady who speaks somewhere between Boomhauer/Beverly Hillbilly (y'all).  Both seem to be nice people but oh man do they ever both look and sound exactly like a Hollywood stereotype.
