What a coincidence, I also adored those books as a little one.

Damn it.  Now I need to go look through a bunch of boxes I have in storage until I can find it.  I hate you guys so much.  I even just noticed that my TV recorded a Firefly marathon.  I CAN'T MAKE THESE DECISIONS.  Firefly or childhood memories... Firefly or childhood memories...

I tricked my school teacher for study hall, Oh, sorry, "learning strategies" into thinking that DF was a coding simulator and that I was making my own game, and testing it. When she challenged it, I spouted enough gibberish she backed off. I love my life.

Why even tell her it is a game? Just say it is code.
People look at the mess on the screen and it looks like something from the matrix, so that is what programming looks like, right?

When I made a matrix joke earlier in the year, she asked where it was from. When I told her, she said that she had never saw it.

It's not just the Matrix that created the mindset that "gibberish on the screen" = code/hacking. Pretty much any film, especially action flicks, will treat it like that.

I once had a supervisor ask me what the weather was going to be like a couple hours from then; she thought that DF adventure mode was a weather radar tracking map. (I said it would be stormy.)

Speaking of code, I've spent most of the past 24 hours working on translating a simple assembler for a custom RISC architecture from C++ to C. If I could pick one feature from C++ to have in C, I would choose the string class. C-style strings are a pain.

But hey, I finally got it done! Woo!

I got that game for my kids when it was on sale for super cheap.  They love it.
