I just got back from visiting my closest friend for a coupla days. There was much-needed cuddling, preposterous amounts of card games, and unhealthy food. Also, Iron Man 3 is pretty great. The only ungood part is that now it's over with.

Heh... I love seeing really creative and well-executed modernized updates of characters like this.

Also... saw Epic today.  It was alright.  I don't have anything really bad to say about it, but it just wasn't very original.  Fun to watch (I'm easily entertained), but otherwise forgettable.  Typical kids movie stuffed full of cliches, but kids don't know they're cliches.  Sure enough, they loved it.  So that was good.

I built a homemade railgun, and learned that flamethrowers are legal without a license in all states but california. Yay for washington state! Also, the railgun smashes cinderblocks. Pew Pew Pew Bang Bang Bang!

I have a whole series of books called "(insert name here) For the Evil genius." My favorite is the electronics projects one. That is where I got the railgun. And a gun that makes a short ranged plasma burst. And a on-touch taser out of a disposable camera. And a recipe for a 3-foot spark lightning generator.

What type of capacitors did you use?

When I made both a railgun and a coilgun recently, I used fuckin loads of 1 farad capacitors in parrallel, rated to 300 volts. Both were AWESOME!

Have no fear!  General Atomics Blitzer (Yes, fucking really.) have made a self-funded railgun which they plan to do an integrated demo of in 2016 and start selling in 2019. Science is dead, long live Science!.
