Well, I'm in a slightly angrier mood, but I also just got off of an argument with my mother so I don't have as good a leash on my tongue as usual.

Novel, I think you should start your own thread for this.  I will post in it and I will argue in it, happily.  But you've been talking about it in a lot of the emotion threads recently, and I think people (read: me and whatever army decides they'll fall in) sometimes want space to, I dunno, not deal with this sort of thing.  Sort of like how the progressivism thread means that we can all chat about misogyny and stuff in there and not have it spoiling other places.

Does that make sense?

Ah, well, that makes my counterpoint a lot less worthwhile. That said, I will never understand asexuals, despite my brother being one. How do you go without clawing your skin off from the hunger?

There isn't any hunger.

For a long time, I was confused by people who went off and had sex, because I thought resisting was about as hard as, I don't know, learning not to suck your thumb.  I get bored when I'm making out with people.  Part of me is like "whee, hormonal happiness!" but a large portion of my brain is typically active, upset, and wishing it were doing something else.

For me, it's mostly about aesthetics.  Naked people are interesting because they are beautiful.  Touching them is interesting because people have wonderful textures.  Sometimes folks get upset about this, because they don't enjoy being examined, but whatever--that's a compatibility problem.

The only interest I have ever had in sex was because I knew my lack of interest was separating me from the rest of humanity and that I wasn't "supposed" to be this way.  I get more release and satisfaction from turning in a hard problem set at the end of the week than I do from kissing folks, masturbation, or anything else.  I hunt down that sort of enjoyment the same way most people hunt down dates.  I am an addict.  When I don't get my fix, I become suicidally depressed.

Basically, my sex drive got transplanted into an aesthetic drive, as far as I can tell.  I am desperately claw-your-skin-off hungry for beauty.

I'm claw-your-skin-off hungry about romantic affection, which I don't get, so I deal with it by writing love letters and curling up into shivering little balls of depression and cling at night.

I'm going to be a horrible boyfriend/husband, someday. I'll be so undistant the entire relationship will go out in flames and wailing, destroyed by its members' own hunger for each other. Clinginess is wretched but addicting stuff...
