I just wish I knew why AC feels so much like Fable to me.

Now that you've mentioned it, I can't shake that feeling. How bizarre.

For me, I think it's the extreme blandness of the NPCs, coupled with the general similarity of quests, coupled with the dull ever-expanding economy, coupled with . . . well, soft blandness in general (most of the viewpoints are built on repetitive copies of the same model, so that they don't become distinct challenges but rather exercises in similarity; my feeling is that the mechanics of stealth games should be built more like Metal Gear, with the feeling that in general each section of the game is unique and the game is to be replayed many times in order to try doing things in different ways).  But I expect to be a walking, talking murderhorse before long, so I'll keep playing.

Ah, yes, the awkwardly shoehorned-in economy. That's what it was. Not that money ever seemed like a concern; at least the various Fable iterations usually had reasons for you to need to set up a coin-harvesting network.

I concur regarding the "stealth" aspects of the game. It was for the most part very much the same throughout, and there was usually more fun to be had in the ludicrous fights and acrobatics.

AC was never that much of a stealth game to be honest.

Also Stealth Bastard isn't so much a stealth game as a platformer game with stealth mechanics. The levels are very linear and plays a lot like N and such.
