So, just finished downloading my long list of Skyrim mods now that I've finally got it for PC. Given my past experiences with New Vegas (two hours of carefully testing and eliminating to see what was causing CTDs), it would be an understatement to say that I am pleasantly surprised that everything worked the very first time.

My car is FUCKING FINALLY repaired. That's a happy.

Major sad is the $500 and the part that had to be shipped literally from the other side of the country it took to fix.

Major WTF is that the mechanics still aren't totally sure if they fixed the original problem or not, since the car started working before they could verify what exactly was causing said problem. They're 95% certain it was the part at fault, but there's a slight chance of my car suddenly dying once again. If it does that, it can cause terror or RAAAAGE depending on the circumstances.

So...since I'm hitting every emotion thread at once, I'll just stick it here and call it a happy.

Eh, I trust these guys (as much as you can trust auto mechanics). They've been treating my baby well for nearly a decade now, have given discounts on numerous occasions, and at least they didn't steal my battery (unlike a certain other shop in my area...).

If they're pretty sure it will work, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

What part did they have to ship cross-country? That's unusual.

The main fuel relay, according to the invoice. It doesn't help that it's a somewhat old car (early 1988) and was never a very popular model to begin with. The only other part listed is the main fuse, and somehow I expect that to be more commonplace.

Good mechanic:
"We're proooobably sure this fixed it. Bring it back if it starts acting up again."

Bad mechanic just after your money:
"We're absolutely sure it fixed it, but there are these other problems you need to get fixed right away, which conveniently we can do right now!"


Also, if your mechanic gives you a list of things that needs fixing, check the price verses the cost of the vehicle. If the repairs are too expensive and the car isn't worth fixing, and they don't mention this, run away from that shop forever. If they DO mention it's not worth fixing, you've probably got a good mechanic.


Generally just look to see whether they have your interest in mind.
