Honestly, stuff like that is a good way to hit a lot of essential nutrients you might otherwise miss, with modern eating habits based on monocultures, meats, and heavily-processed foods. Supplement it with vegitables, fruits, beans, and grains, and it's a net win.

I'm looking into getting a discount voucher by requesitioning my bloodwork online, to see if I can participate in testing Soylent. If not, I might take donations, and make a brief video documentary of my journey. I think the cost of testing would be in the vicinity of $40 since I'm uninsured.

If you figure out how to do all this stuff, let me know and I'll probably follow your footsteps.

Higgs Boson: FOUND.
Indeedy. I saw that earlier, and it is quite the happy. Now, if people would stop calling it the "God Particle," everyone with a genuine interest in science would be a whole lot happier.

This is really, really exciting to me.  I want it now!!!  Will be watching how this develops very closely...
I want this. I'm very tempted to try mixing up the stuff myself. In theory the ingredients should all be readily available online. The difficulty would be in measuring out the stuff.

Hurm, this is rather neat. Since he lives in San Fransisco about a hour away from where I do, and says on his blog that he is fine selling it, I think I might talk to him and try some out for a week or two.

If it works out well I suppose that it would be interesting to try out longer term by mixing some myself, but it does seem like quite a pain to get working originally, even if over longer terms it seems much easier then food.

EDIT: I would be totally fine with the blood tests aspect of it to get it for free for a week, but I'm not quite sure how exactly that would end out working money wise, and if it would end up more expensive then just buying the mix from him for a week.

On the topic of tasteless, ugly vomity shit in a beaker, I just had delicious fries with a chicken saté and mayonaise + ketchup. Yum yum.

Okay, initial search indicates that getting a Complete Blood Count, Lipid Panel, and a Metabolic Profile/Chemical Panel while uninsured will cost me $73.20 if I do it through MDLabTests.com. Adding on genetic testing through 23andme.com would make that $172.20. And it would be impossible if not for the internet, which lets me work around the fact that the US medical system does not support, and in many cases actively dissuades, preventative testing and care! (...and yes, I have been dissuaded from requesting bloodwork from a clinic, without having an ongoing medical condition before.)

Anyway, it looks like it's time to make a Soylent Vlog Fund on Paypal, and get to Youtube-begging. Huzzah for crowd-funded, open-source entertainment science?

Maybe I should start a new topic to discuss this, I'm kind of interested in seeing how you can reverse engineer the process.
