I probably would have liked Pokemon if it could somehow be like the anime, where Pokemon evolve when it's most dramatically appropriate rather than when they gain enough experience, Team Rocket tries to take your Pokemon with some Pokemon-shaped device or vehicle rather than beating you in battle, and you could pick up traveling companions (did later games ever add this?) who had their own dreams and desires that they would pursue while you were in town.
