What is it with people categorising their friends based on sexuality anyway? I have a few friends who are lesbians, you know how I refer to them? As my friends.

Does it carry over to other people too? 'I'm going to see my Caucasian dentist' 'I'm looking for my straight mailman'

Well, it also helps make clear that they're a platonic friend. Unless the speaker is female.

No no no.

My dentist is black.not really, but people catagorize by sexuality, race, religion, those sort of things all the time. It's easier to say "My jewish friend" or "my black friend" than "My friend who is six foot three enjoys basketball and attends festivities of a semetic nature on a regular basis, who is otherwise secular, and has deeply tanned skin suggesting african origin in his genome".
