Getting rid of a book is, like, an outside context problem or something. Books are for keeping, and hiding in corners to shore up the foundation of your house. Or something. Not selling. Lending, maybe. But they come back home or the bibliophilic mongol horde comes for your head.

Helps that I liked all my higher education textbooks, so far.

I usually keep a few, but most are so old and horribly defaced that I couldn't bear to have them around. If there's such a thing as sin, book mutilation is it. That aside, it's nice to walk out with $200 in cash for a psych text with water damage, a bunch of Christian philosophy, and a few plays that I already own.

Ah, damaged stuff is more... understandable. Sorta'.

It's still a book, and a book is for keeping. Damaged book is for, like... foot rests. Or propping stuff up. Something. Not selling. Or giving away, or... letting it out of your sphere of possession.

It is entirely possible I may have a monstrously huge somewhat latent hoarder tendency towards books, though. One of the reasons I've been transitioning to digital as much as possible. Harder to run out of space for that, and much easier to reacquire, most of the time. Less... metaphysical weight, if you will. And physical weight. Computer tower much worse for bludgeoning than encyclopedia of philosophy. Less likely to still be usable afterwards. About the same efficacy as a mousepad, though. Book's a bit easier to maneuver around so it's comfortable.

Not sure where I was going with that. Take my books and I will take the functioning of your useful extremities via gratuitous use of toothpick.
