And the great Toad raised his mighty hammer, and the spambots quaked in fear. And then they fell under the burning wrath of his majesty.

I've been getting some help from some of the locals at the Wizards Official Forums, and the fruit of my arduous deckbuilding and brainstorming is finally starting to pay off as I come home from a reasonably successful FNM.

It's a BR Control deck, and it's getting kind of beastly from my weeks of work on it.

Haven't really watched Ponies since the first season, since I pretty much got what I was going to get out of it. It was a cute feel-good adventure show for kids, and managed to portray female characters that are both feminine and strong, which is actually pretty rare. They managed to create action and tension, while avoiding overt violence... quite a feat for a kids show. Adding to that, it was impossibly, ridiculously cheerful. Hell, I make a point not to squee in public, but there were more squee moments than I care to count.

Anyway, I recently discovered that it's on its third season now, and since it had been a while, decided to binge on some of the most recent stuff to see how it stacked up. Apparently while I was away, the show learned more tongue-in-cheek humor, added complexity to their plots, and seem to now be tailoring their Aesops to both kids, and to adults watching the show with their wee ones (or, ehem, staying up late to watch it on the internet). It seems to have managed to hold on to that inexplicable feel-good quality too, which was nice. Many "D'awwww!" moments were had.

All in all, I think the show matured in a number of positive ways, and the writers seem to be a bit more adventurous with what they're willing to try. Some of the new villains are rather creepy; fey changelings have always weirded me out. They also appear to have introduced a more likable young male character to the plot in the form of an older sibling to one of the existing charcters. Guess they noticed there are plenty of boys watching, despite their target demographic.

Long story short, it was a fun binge, and I'm glad to see that they're still doing well. With stuff like this, adventure time, and so on, I feel hope for the future of cartoons again!

I just started my Fucked-Up Novel. However, even though the text is in Esperanto, I don't think I could reproduce it here...maybe the first couple sentences.

Spoiler: Transparent text (click to show/hide)

Feel free to send me a PM for the rest of the scene, or what I have of it...

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I thought of the best romantic way to spend a day in: get up early, cuddle for a couple hours, then spend most of the rest of the day drinking not particularly excellent wine and watching artsy European pornos (while cuddling).

Unfortunately, I don't have anyone to do this with  :'(

I've heard that one was really good. I've so far missed it, though. It's on my list!

On a related note, people openly enjoying things like this, and doing so unironically, is considered one of the signs that an up-and-coming counterculture, a rebellion against the cynicism of the 80's and on, is something they've been calling New Sincerity. It's weird to think of what that might look like in years to come.

Pornos and love don't tend to go together well unless you are in an open relationship.
Also:
artsy European pornos
I REALLY REALLY hope you don't mean the more ... out there types of art.

I'd disagree! Provided both parties are comfortable with pornography, I can't see any reason why it'd be bad... it's good to be honest about what we find attractive, and to recognize our thoughts and feelings rather than suppressing them. Besides, if it creates a problem in the relationship, breeding feelings of jealousy or inadequacy, then that helps the couple find and work out their issues in a safe environment.

So basically, watching porn as a couple is like relationship counseling on a budget. And makes for much more hilarious stories to tell your children and/or subsequent partners.
