I am very seriously considering upgrading my computer with a i7-3820 and a really fast 512gig ssd.

for a minimal additional investment of a dirt cheap case and a ~20lb cross country fedex box, I can throw my old parts together and gift my niece and nephew with a half decent gaming rig when the best computer they currently have in their house is literally from the previous millennium.

I can save about $150 on this with the current newegg sales.

On the down side? spending a thousand bucks on something that is awesome, but not absolutely necessary.

It twerks my frugal bone, the one that incessantly worries about how well prepared I am for disaster, and they inevitably happen, a lot.

Life's an adventure. Don't waste more of it than you have to on frugality.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I can't actually stand listening to the same style of music for extended periods anymore, usually. If I haven't gone through five wildly different genres in the last seven songs, it feels off. I need my accordion/banjo into death metal into classical into a cappella into hard techno opera. Those are good times.

I'm in a similar boat, which is why I love bands like Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. It's not so much a band as it is an event, where several musicians gather and invite other musicians they've met in the last year or so to make music and tour with them. You have mainstays like the Wooten brothers on Bass and Synthidrumitar, Bela on Banjo, and Jeff Coffin on Sax... with numbers featuring famous Jazz musician Chick Corea, Bassekou Kouyate of the Malian band Ngoni Ba, world-famous Tuvan throat-singer Kongar-ol Ondar, or even Bela playing classical Bach on banjo.

Every album the Flecktones release surprises me. Pure versatility and musical talent there. I absolutely love their stuff.

My playlist is mostly Two Steps from Hell, with Rhapsody (of Fire), Rise Against, Eminem, Avenged Sevenfold, and some others mixed in.

And My simultaneous reigning Best Song and Best Song Title

For a split second I thought that this was part of some James Bond/Star Trek crossover.

Way to disappoint myself, me!
