Hope being the worst Evil is kinda a YMMV thing, imo.

Final Fantasy 6 tells me that hope was the only good thing in the box, and it appears as a scantily clad half-psychic woman with green hair.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I always interpreted that as Banon being naive, putting all his faith in one person.

In fact I always interpreted him as being a jerkass.

He didn't really leave a good impression, did he?  Never thought much about it, because he ends up being such a minor character.  You meet him and think he's going to be a major player.  Nope.

Yeah, first we start out with Locke giving a speech about forcing her to help being no different than Evil Empire, and then Banon comes along and effectively guilt trips her into it. Jerkass.

Then he does effectively squat and eventually disappears after walking around burning Vector. /shrug

At least he is intrumental to the glitch. The glitch. The glitch that does something we all wish we could do.

Banon doesn't do squat.  He was a key player in the "Tape down one button during the river escape to for infinite experience while you sleep" exploit strategy!  :P  Without him, you wouldn't be able to keep your health up.

Yeah, without that, it'd be impossible to beat the game in the minimum amount of steps possible. :P

Actually, since FF6 was sloppily coded, all the "bonus characters" occupy the same character slot. Banon, the Ghost, etc.

Do you know who else shares Banon's slot?

Yeah, I've hacked into the game a bit and know all about that. (there's actually 2 ghosts you can get, if you don't have Shadow. Second one takes Kefka's slot, iirc, so you can glitch a ghost into your party later instead of him)

Love FF VI. Watched a friend play the whole game years ago. Loved. It.

The entire thing was pretty revolutionary at the time. The story was pretty compelling for SNES too.

Terra was a cool character, as was Celes. Felt bad for Leo, who proved not every power in the empire was a jerk.

Favorite FF game, even above VII. Hated the Kafka laugh though.
