So Magic: The Gathering has been distracting me from legitimate projects lately. I should probably develop willpower one of these days, but you come home from work at 11:15 and doing more work is just not the first thing that comes to mind. Anyway now I have a deck whose title, while overly long, is accurate: "I've found what it takes to make me happy, and it isn't people, it's things."

Speaking of Magic the Gathering...

I had alot of fun on last Friday, I meant to tell you guys earlier but I never got around to it. I went to my local card club's FNM and tried out my Mono-black control pile. It didn't score any prizes, with my record resting at 1 win (against a newer player), 1 tie (that was an epic tie though), and 2 losses (totally curbstomped...), but I still had a lot of fun. It was the second FNM I ever went to, with my last time going being sometime like a year ago, and got to meet some cool people, plus an old friend I thought I'd never see again.

I'll try again next FNM, this time with my newest creation: Boros artifact weenie burn (name in progress)

I'm curious what your deck is about btw, it must be pretty neat with a name like that.

Also, next sunday, the local table tennis club opens up again!!! That's too good, I get to play again!

I'm curious what your deck is about btw, it must be pretty neat with a name like that.

My friends are playing over an online program called Cockatrice, so sometimes we let each other make decks out of cards we don't actually physically own, with a few restrictions for sanity's sake. This is one such deck; it's built as sort of a theme thing - artifacts, no colored mana from lands (I have a few creatures and artifacts that can be tapped for "any color of mana" which is close enough for me; one of my lands has an ability that requires a blue mana and is insanely useful in an artifact deck, so I allowed myself this one temptation). The whole thing is built around using some tricks to transfer around charge counters and using Proliferation to turbocharge a Darksteel Reactor while building an army of indestructible constructs as a distraction. The main key to this latter strategy is a Mycosynth Golem to make all my cards basically free to play once the game gets going, with a Darksteel Forge at some point, since literally everything that isn't land is an artifact. The major downside is that the theme precluded any instants and sorceries, which means I can do little about an opponent who wants to wreck my shit by non-creature means. If I allowed myself access to cards of at least one color it'd be a good deal more secure, but what're you going to do?

I've been going to FNM for a few weeks now and my black/white token deck is actually getting into shape. I've gone from 3 stomped losses and one win against someone who forgot to put counters on his sleeping dragon(Get a +1/+1 every time you get attacked by a creature, can attack and block only when he has 5 +1/+1's ) To two wins, one stomp that could have been less of a stomp if I had just one card to play a massively bullshit combo, and one where I won the first game because my opponent was distracted. But it's still getting better!

Basically, there's alot of burn and direct damage combined with artifact weenie attacks, then Jor Kadeen! I'm hyped about finally getting to use him, he's just been sitting placidly in my card box for so long doing nothing, and I finally found a good deck to put him in. For more detail, there's basically burn like Artillerize, Volt Charge (slight combo with Necrogen censer, a card I'm nervous about because I've just plain never used it in a serious deck before, but also combos with my singleton Chandra the Firebrand and Shrine of Loyal Legions) and of course Galvanic blast for even more cheap burn. There's alot of artifacts and alot of weenies, and even more artifact weenies so I hope that I can burn and swing in for a bunch and then ride Jor Kadeen for the win.

Just gotta hope that instant removal and board wipes are not used enmasse.

I'm a little nervous though because I'm not sure if two shrines and two fireballs are right for the build. Maybe I could playtest it on Cockatrice? That sounds like a good idea actually.
