FF9 had my personal favorite mechanics, and the characters were fun, except for the most annoying Cid of the series.

Man, when it first came out and for a couple years after, 8 had like...more fangirls than 7 did.  But hey, unmemorable I guess.

4 had a /purity/ of game mechanics that I really appreciated.  Also, only game with 5 party members?  Forces you to adapt your tactics to whatever they give you, instead of letting you abuse them?  Score!

I liked 5 when I was younger and abusing the mechanics made me feel like I was some kind of gaming god.  Replaying it, otoh, is boring as hell.  3 is similar.

2 was barely an FF game, but hey they were experimenting.

...You know, both my fiancee and a couple of girls in my university tabletop group are huge huge Suikoden 2 fangirls (the latter often cosplay as Camus and Miklotov).  Personally I had trouble getting too deep into the game, after beating the first two.  But hey if you want to pick up chicks, Suikoden 2 is apparently the way to do it.

I really need to get Suikoden as well. It's just something that I never bothered with as a kid.

I loved the Secret of Mana series. For the one on the SNES, I did the glitch cheat at the end to get your weapon up to uber levels, but it screwed up my save and I never finished the game. For the one on the PS1 I just never finished but I remember it being really interersting with farms and robots and pets and making your own weapons and everything. It was just a big melting pot of game mechanics.

SoM was my favorite game ever while I was in the SNES era of growing up.  The title music still gets me /every time/.

SD3 was a favorite while I was in my SNES weeaboo phase.  Except that the balance was terrible.  Half the characters got two hits per swing, which means they did double damage for no penalty.  Kevin the werewolf always wolfed out at night which made him effectively, like, five levels higher than the party, AND he was one of the guys who got double hits.  Some of the class trees were worthless (who uses debuffs, seriously).  If it wasn't for the awful balance issues, the class trees would have been a lot more fun.  The story didn't really grip me though...

Anyone play Evermore? Pretty much the same mechanics as Secret of Mana, and you end up getting a robot dog that shoots death lasers. What's not to like?

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Seiken Densetsu 3 was a very pretty game, though. The art and music were pretty much maximizing the potential of the SNES, similarly to what Ristar did with the Genesis. SD3 makes for a really fun multiplayer game too, with a SNES multitap.

Multiplayer, yes, thats really the only way to play the Seiken Densetsu games. And a few of the Final Fantasy games, for that matter! (yes, several of them had multiplayer)

And Baldur's Gate...

Man, multiplayer RPGs really are the best. I miss them.

Me too. Always wanted to do a 4-man run through Tales of Symphonia or something... it always looked like fun. Wish you could somehow play the multiplayer mode over a network or something.

Funny you should mention that...It is theoretically possible, though emulators would be required.
