Had an interesting day at work.  I'm working in a "home office" in a guy's house, and he his office is also his den.  I noticed a complete set of Samurai Jack on DVD next to the TV.  I figured they belonged to his twelve year old son, and made a mental note to tell him, "Dude, when I was your age this show was the bomb."

At lunch, I don't remember how it came up, but it turns out the DVDs are not the kid's.  They're my boss'.  He's not IMDB-level familiar with Genndy Tartakovsky's "body of work", but he knows the name and loves Samurai Jack and the 2004 Clone Wars shorts.  This led to a conversation about the... dichotomous quality of the Star Wars prequels, and how much Episode 1 sucked.  He admitted to being a huge nerd in his mid-40s, and fondly recalled the time he shut down an office by asking aloud, "Who would win (at which point I laughed out loud), Batman or Spiderman?"  Somewhere along the way, this turned into a discussion of the morality of wealth in comicbookland, which was a pretty short step to him educating me in how recycling is a liberal plot to control your consumption.

Every day is a new experience with this guy.  At least it's an easy way to kill three hours at work.

"Who would win (at which point I laughed out loud), Batman or Spiderman?"
I dunno, but I do know Spiderman's life would somehow turn out shittier and Batman would still be a billionaire that beats up the poor and destitute.

Seems like a fun guy.

Does Bruce Wayne ever use his wealth to try and address the root causes of crime? like funding rehabilitation programs, inner city youth programs, etc?

Also: why doesn't he just pay someone to be Batman? or does he revel in the violence to much?

One BTAS episode had him convert a crime lord to christianity.

I'm not kidding. Episode title is "It's Never Too Late."

There's always angst in pretty much every continuity about the various Robins and other sidekicks being endangered, so... It's more of a "it's personal" thing plus "only my responsibility" thing.

Making a reaction image to put on 4chan that begins to catch on and gets reposted several times makes me happy.

Also my friend and I are doing a nomadic journey style game of minecraft over LAN, which is fun. We essentially move, sleep, loot caves and pillage villages. We roleplayed a bit through chat too, it was great.

That picture's a bit old, though. We're currently bunked down in what we are referring to as Mexico, since our direction to travel is south, with iron armor and a large amount of Iron and coal. Here's another, though my friend isn't featured in it, to give an idea of what we're dealing with here.

I love little adventures like this in minecraft with friends.

I'm rereading the ol' Girl Genius archives, there's so much I love about this webcomic. There are also moments that really make me laugh hard, like this one:

I don't know why I laughed so hard at that.

New idea for a stupid comic book character: SOCIAL DEMOCRACY MAN. By day, he eats herring and watches disturbing movies...by night, he defeats libertarians, Marxists and conservatives with a death ray from IKEA and doesn't afraid of anything.

I got like five minutes before closing time at this library.

'sup plebs, I'm enjoying my time here in New York. Staying at the local church center with a program they have for providing this internship. It's been really cool seeing buddies from different states taking the same program and doing their own things. Currently helping a guy with graphic design work in his office. I have a good work ethic so I'm doing this over a library computer and not the work computer.

I'll be sure to better document my tasks as I now know about this place and things have settled down.

Bruce is a really rich guy that goes and beats people up in his free time as a hobby.

Otherwise he'd just have his own well funded police force.

There are some things about Batman you just kinda have to accept. The billionaire beating up poor people thing is one of them.

One reason he doesn't have a police force of his own is it would have to be legal. A big theme is Batman being able to do what the law can't (which is its own can of unfortunate implications, explored many a time, always resulting in a do-not-kill rule to emphasize that fighting monsters has not turned him into one).
