Quote from: Wikipedia

The Gravitation3d Magic 5D Cube software is capable of rendering 5-cube puzzles in six sizes from 25 to 75. As well as the ability to make moves on the cube there are controls to change the view. These include controls for rotating the cube in 3-space, 4-space and 5-space, 4-D and 5-D perspective controls, cubie and sticker spacing and size controls, similar to Subliminal's 4D cube.
However, a 5-D puzzle is much more difficult to comprehend on a 2-D screen than a 4-D puzzle is. An essential feature of the Gravitation3d implementation is the ability to turn off or highlight chosen cubies and stickers. Even so, the complexities of the images produced are still quite severe as can be seen from the screen shots.
Gravitation3d maintains a Hall of Insanity for record breaking solvers of this puzzle. As of 6th, January 2011, there has been two successful solutions for the 75 size of 5-cube.[3]

I repeat: somebody has solved a scrambled 5-dimensional 7x7x7x7x7 Rubik's Cube. Twice.

I'm not sure whether to be awed that such a figure has graced us mere mortals with his presence or terrified that such a mind exists and might potentially be used for devious purposes. I'd love to see the algorithms he used, though.

It's worth noting that the 6-D 3x3, 7-D 3x3, and 6-D 4x4 have also been solved.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I believe D would stand for 'die side', not 'dimension' :P

At a previous job I dealt with a 7 dimensional hypercube database;

I soon figured out that rotating particular dimension would allow it to compact better; and the database shrunk from 2 gigabytes to 512 megabytes (the DB server at the time had 256 megs of ram), performance decupuled (x10), and it stopped crashing all the time.

I was a hero to several financial analysts.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

I have absolutely no clue how any of that would work.

Anyway, on another note, I get a real happy vibe out of watching this girl dance with her violin. She just seems to be enjoying herself so god damned much!

It was pretty simple actually, imagine you had a grid of digits:

Code: [Select]
0102
0603
0404
0209

stored as "0102060304040209"

As it is, you have a zero in every other digit, however, the database only knew how to say "there is a # zeros in a row", not "every other/third/fourth, etc. So rotating it to be:

Code: [Select]
0000
1642
0000
2349

let it be stored like "D1642D2349"

Saving a lot of space. Just with seven dimensions of numbers being lined up instead of two.

Oh hey, I thought the backgrounds in the Skyrim video and that one looked familiar. She's from Utah. I recognize those damn ugly mountains; they're in my backyard.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
