Well, yes, staring at the sun directly is a bad idea, but it's not like that's necessary to determine the sun's position in the sky.

I just got "Confessions of a Conjuror", by Derren Brown, as a birthday present from on of my relatives. (I'm currently at the birthday party, but since I'm the boring, not really chatty type, I've been spending most of the time on my computer)

I have no idea how they managed to pick me something so appropriate to my tastes.

EDIT: Oh, and I also got a horrible pink, striped, shirt, which I'm wondering if it has some cultural significance of some form, it seems to be part of an in-joke which I'm too embarrassed to ask about. I'm apparently wearing it out when we go to the lava lounge tonight (which is as I understand it, about the nicest pseudo-upscale club in Cardiff).

I'm really going to have to educate myself on some Welsh culture at some point since all the relatives I ever get to associate with live in Wales... either that or Australia. The semi-classy English side of the family all hates me.

Pnx, oddly I am in Cardiff atm - I live there termtime. The "Lava Lounge" you speak of is frequented by people roughly twice your age. Beware!
