So it is now as of 8 minutes ago my birthday. I am now of legal American drinking age.
Are you drunk yet?

I don't actually drink, this just means that unfortunately I've lost another good excuse.

The best excuse is to tell people that you tried it, but the taste of alcohol causes you to vomit uncontrollably. Mind, depending on your friends, they might then try to spike your drinks for laughs/to test your claim.

I will say, though, that sweet red wine is delicious.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

The best intro wine is Moscato. Sweet, light, and you can pretend to be a snob because it's actually a white wine.

Happy Birthday! The getting wasted on your 21st B-Day thing can be fun, but it's silly to treat it as a right of passage; don't let anyone pressure you into drinking if you don't want to. From a life experience standpoint, however, I would strongly suggest that you eventually find a situation you feel comfortable and safe in, and try it so you understand what it's like, and can better know your body and its limitations.

Moderation in all things.

Generally agree with Solifuge. Remember, you are a tough dude, you can resist pressure if it comes.

Also, the sweet red I'm drinking is actually a red Moscato, so I endorse MaximumZero's claims.

A friend once shared a bottle of lambic with me, which was pretty great... basically peach puree plus a light, sweet beer. It would have served as a desert in itself, if it didn't have a ridiculous alcohol content. >_<;

Generally speaking, I'm fond of fruit-based drinks, local microbrewed beers of many sorts, and maybe wine during holidays and such... but I also like bitter and complex tastes like peanut skins, orange peels, etc. On a weekend out with some friends, a single 24oz beer brewed at any of the local breweries in my area is about the right content of alcohol where it won't debilitate me, rounds out my caloric intake, and comes in a lot of tasty varieties. They're especially nice when paired with rich or spicy foods, since drinking tends to accentuate certain flavors.

I prefer to stay away from the bottled and canned mass-market beers, and find most liquors pretty unpleasant to drink straight. I can appreciate a lot of different flavors, but I don't feel that "getting a buzz" is worth drinking something I genuinely don't enjoy.

I haven't had alcohol for over a year. The taste just doesn't agree with me  :)

21 as a legal drinking age is ridiculous. I've got no idea how I would've survived 16-21 without alcohol to get through the working day.

Come to think of it, I have no recollections of how I survived those years, either.

Frankly, most people here think 16 is too late for drinking age.

And by most people I mean teenagers. Suckers.

Meh, i personally believe drugs and alcohol are pretty damned stupid, no benefits, just negatives.
(wooh, this is my first post in the happy thread ^)
