Redesigning legos is a difficult job of making a bunch of small, fragile pieces work together in a flexible way that won't fall apart under expected strain of kids playing with them. I can't imagine their minifigs getting more joints without becoming too robotic. You just delve into Bionicle territory like that.

One expects you could just market it towards a slightly older audience.  Kids over ten or so could totally be trusted little bits like that design, and would appreciate the greater complexity and posing.

I think there'd be a lot more room for it to get off the ground (at all that is) if some daring company with investment cash took it up, that isn't Lego.  Lego's not going to heavily change what it markets, outside of a very expansive push like attractive some "girls" Lego, and a competitor company would have an instant market share by offering something that Lego doesn't.

I love that article about the Girl Design thing too.  A room full of male designers asks, why do we need more than one design of handbag?  Answer: Well, why do the castle guys need more than design of sword?

Never forget, you are now more than ever The Man in her life, the standard by which she will measure all other males.  She's going to be judging you like crazy at least until she's old enough to have a breakup.

As if you needed to be reminded, this is your impetus to be an awesome dad.  Now go out there and be awesome.

The best reason, I found, to be awesome, is that they tend to marry guys that remind them of their dads.

Well, that and the effort it takes to not be awesome.

Yeah, that's a terrifying thought. My wife and I have actually had some pretty heavy-duty arguments lately about how I interact with my daughter. She thinks I'm entirely too critical, while I think she's entirely too permissive. A big part of the problem is that I never grew up with either of my half-siblings, so the whole sibling interaction thing is totally foreign to me. So it pushes my big red rage button when she's been a perfect angel all afternoon, and within five minutes of getting home, is tormenting her younger brother for no apparent reason. On an intellectual level, I know it's perfectly normal. That doesn't mean I can make myself think it's acceptable.  :-\

We have the same type of arguments, and we're both right...  ::)

Oh man do I know that one. Thing is, I know its down to my upbringing. My Dad was (and still is, to some extent) very strict and harsh with me, and expected, nay, demanded the highest standards from me. I thank him for that as without it I would not have had the drive to succeed. I follow a pattern with my Kids - I expcet them to do the very best they possibly can, be it in school, socially, manners, chores, whatever. Refusing to try has consequences. I am very much a stick person. My other half is a carrot person, and will bribe our children with treats to get them to do thier best. This, as might be expected, causes issues. Already they play us off each other.

Now, I am horrified at the prospect of either of my daughters marrying someone like me, as I know I am an asshole.... but this leads me on to the happy bit. My eldest (5 yrs old) had been hiding something from me. Turns out since Valentines day she had been stashing a new cuddly toy under her bed that her "boyfriend" got her (yea I know they are 5, its still kinda sweet tho). She was too embarrsed to share this with me or her mum. I nearly choked up. :)
