Now on a second professor's short list of good students. I managed to impress him so much over the past 6 weeks in which I've been in his course he offered a 1 or 2 quarter co-op position on his pet project, a TA position next quarter for the course I'm currently taking with him, and an invitation to a dinner hosted by potential employers.

Then again, I sort of went above the homework requirements of 'create a spiderweb (2D implied) whose nodes move according to spring physics' with my spiderweb. (requires flash player 11; key controls at bottom of the page) Flash's new Stage3D is really quite neat to develop in; shader based 3D programming without the initialization fuss of DirectX or OpenGL. Though the shaders do have to be written in assembly

After first a month of waffling about it, then a month of fucking around waiting for the holidays to pass and figuring out the "new" process, I will finally be goin' down to the office tomorrow to take my Supervisor test.  Boss says it isn't too hard, and I'm pretty sure I've assimilated the company's modus operandi well enough to fake my way through it (when in doubt, always pass the buck to the guy above you).

Given that my boss was totally confused on how to enter the application, and that I was the first to notice how completely fucked up the computer records were so they had to be fixed, I'm apparently the first person in at least four months to apply for a position, so hopefully I'll be the only name in the pool.  I have no idea if this will translate to an appreciable pay raise, but at least I won't feel like such a professional failure, and I'll have a nice shiny label to put on a resume and find a real job somewhere else.

Suck it, O professor of little faith.  I'm good at this shit.  As soon as I figure out graphics I'm making a horrible and probably completely un-fun game.

Get in the thread Vec, we go on road trips and stuff.  You'll learn more there than any dumb old "professor" could ever tell you.

In happy news, I've managed to wheedle my way into both of the courses I wanted, even though that was supposed to be impossible.  Also, we're not learning LISP in the compsci course... we're learning Python   Games-ho!

Attendant sad: within 2 minutes of sitting down in the CS class, I got hit on.

Woo Python! I use it all the time, mostly for scripting admin-like things on our servers.

If you're going to make a game, my one suggestion is that everything is better with Beam Weaponry.

Movie I've never seen before called Alien Siege starting on TV. I can tell by just the first few seconds of the starting credit roll that this is going to be gloriously bad.

Preliminary research indicates it's a Sci Fi Channel Original Movie. I think "gloriously bad" is probably an understatement.

The lead actor's other major roles have been in the Left Behind movies.
The "gruff military man" is Apollo Creed.
And the aliens' superweapon is known as the "Raeg". (no, I'm not making that up)

Alien mission: their race needs liquified humans to survive. Judging by the visual effects the liquification is done with a hi-tech smoothie blender.

It's like a 50's sci-fi movie plot with Babylon5 special FX.
