Saw the Muppets movie the other day with my daughter. It was a genuinely refreshing movie: a kids movie that was an actual kids movie without being one of two things:

1. Full of in-jokes for adults disguised as kids' jokes.
2. Incredibly transparent and boring.

Most of the humor was old-fashioned Muppets cornball and slapstick. The two gimmes for the parents were the parody musical numbers (you have not heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" until you've heard it sung by the Swedish Chef and Beaker) and the celebrity cameos. I spent half the movie going, "Was...was that Dave Grohl??" The answer is, yes. Yes, it was.

Well new years wasn't a total bust. Some friends from back in highschool gave me a call, wished me the best on new years, was good to hear from them. Apparently I'm still the most enigmatic ball of awesome they ever met, and that boosted the fuck out of my ego just enough to not hate tonight.

Finally managed to come up with ideas for the history and cultures for one of the intelligent species in a world building project of mine. Yay for finally getting around my writer's block.

Had a good New Year's, even though the trains to and from the city were so packed that there was enforced spooning. Highlight of the night was fireworks setting the Arts Centre Spire (think the Eiffel Tower, but smaller and a bit more curved) alight and having to try to hold back the crowd getting to the train station to let the firetruck through.

The last song I played had three points with ~5 of those armoured worm thingies, and two points with upwards of 4 mine launchers, probably closer to 6~

Well not the western kind of pie, this one is more like sticks of very thing dough filled with a few kinds of homemade cheese (something rather awesomely tasting) and baked, so it's an awesome type of food, especially if you eat it with other stuff, like bacon, or more cheese, or stuff

Also it's getting closer, holy shit the end of the world is getting closer and I can't stop grinning like a madman :DDDDDDDDDDD

Steam has had LA Noire for a pretty good price all Christmas, and then on hte last day of the sale they mark it all the way down to 12 fucking dollars.  Cheeky bastards.  Good things come to squids who wait.

Still playing Assassin's Creed.  During a spoiler I found a huge chamber full of water.  When you flip a lever several massive stone blocks (Like, as big as houses) are dropped into the water, causing the water level to raise past some drains in the wall, draining the room.  The blocks are then lifted back up to serve as convenient parkour platforms.

That seems like an excessive way to drain a room.  This place must've been made by dorfs.

That's not excessive. Excessive would be using a single block almost the size of the entire chamber.

I got some money for Christmas. I'm not happy necessarily just for the fact I have some money, but more because it'll allow me to do some stuff I've been meaning to do. Namely, donate. Been wanting to throw some more money Toady's way for a while, and my "home" forum of over a decade has gone back to community donations to stay afloat, and I've been feeling guilty for not being able to do my part.

So yay for money, so I can give it to other people. (And get myself a new video card.....)
