Working with an idea I came across in the DF Dwarf Mode threads, and coming up with an idea based on it for a topic in DF General, made me come up with a pretty awesome megaproject idea, and how to execute it.

DF2011 (for real), or SimCity: Dwarf Fortress Edition: Bring the dwarves to the 21st century in Vanilla DF (or any modern-style mod). Using the OUWR (or a stackable version of it), and a series of "power lines" (above ground on poles with gear mechanisms atop them, and axles spanning the gaps) and substations to regulate the power output, and a little creative design linking it to houses and buildings, we can legitamately build true dwarven cities and towns. Residental, industrial, agricultural, and commercial districts; the works. Office buildings, noble hotels, shopping centers, casinos, colosseums, houses, apartment complexes; you name it, and as long as power is brought to them (and adequate plumbing to make more use of them), there you go.

CAUTION: I have not tested the stackable OUWR (or SOUR (excluding obvious source)), and all the suspended "wiring" and/or plumbing infrastructure, so I am uncertain if FPS will be an issue or not.

Makes me want to make at least a small settlement like this to see if it's possible, both functionally and aesthetically.
