For me, the problem with Dark Crystal versus Labyrinth and so on is the lack of a human reference.  You need that anchor, and some amount of facial expressions.

Terry Gilliam had the right idea with Time Bandits, all the comedic visuals, no puppets necessary.

One or two of them. Munchausen was pretty fucking win, but doesn't count for being more comedy with a touch of WTF than fucking creepy puppets will take me in my sleeeep, same with Parnassus. Brothers Grimm had no puppets, had a horse though... Always wanted to watch Tideland, but havn't yet.

And Holy grail is.. Well it is Holy grail.

Go and watch Brazil. The creepy puppets will never leave your dreams afterwards.

I had a fantastically cathartic experience yesterday; probably one of the best things that's happened to me in a long while. Also, if I hadn't already had dinner planned, I would be making that tomato coconut curry sauce thing right now. That looks far too tasty for its own good.

Also, on a tangentially puppet-related note, I'm rather sad that we don't often see puppets/animatronics in films anymore, in favor of quicker, cheaper 3D Animation. Characters and scenes seem to lose something when rendered with CGI alone, and the actors who interact with them seem less genuine.

Will do! Any other suggestions while I am movie hunting? The local library is surprisingly well stocked. I mean it even has Bruno!

Quick and cheap 3d animation does suck, but good cg blows away puppets/animatronics, in my opinion.  With good cg compositing, you cannot tell it's cg, except with human characters... and the uncanny valley gets a little smaller every year.

I'm always trying to get people to watch The City of Lost Children, but I'm not sure if your library stocks French cinema films.
Also, pretty much anything covered by these guys: http://mymhm.tv/ , especially the first one they talked about - The Fall.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Brazil is the single worst movie I have ever seen.

Funny how hit-and-miss the 'weird' semi-fantasy movie genre is.

You know that thing they do to Alex in 'A clockwork orange' where they make him watch movies?
I am going to do that to Aquizzar for twilight.

My cousin stopped by for a visit during his California to New York road trip. He showed me what he termed "Mexican food jesus". By this I mean that he said "Sup?" when I answered the door, walked past me to the kitchen, and started cooking. He made a quesadilla. Then he made mashed potatoes. Then he started fixing soft shelled tacos. In this time, I managed to close the front door, enter the kitchen, and be confused. Then he spread the mashed potatoes all over one side of the quesadilla, rolled up the soft shell taco into a tube, set it onto the mashadilla, and rolled the mashadilla around the taco. It was so delicious. I haven't seen this cousin for five years prior to now, but all I can focus on is the mashatacodilla.

Just finished reading Watchmen again. I'm pretty sure Dr. Manhattan is a 2nd level* character in D&D terms. In an NPC class, no less.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Speaking of hit-and-miss weirdness, this is probably the best music video I've ever seen.
