Spoiler: :D (click to show/hide)

Also, this project I'm working on with my math professor is going to be incredibly big.  Or, at the very least, incredibly bigger.  One of my contacts is having me talk to an apparently extremely famous and skilled ex-poet laureate, as well as recommending a stack of books and giving me the name of a professor at another university.

This is frankly kind of amazing.  I can't believe this is happening to me.

Fortunately, I have plenty of belief for both of us, you can borrow mine.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

If not for the presence of another male temporary companion who was revealed to be into dudes as the last we hear of them I would just accept it as part of his personality, not enough women in the universe for him to hit on. Although it takes three to establish a pattern so my point(I have a point?) is moot.

This is the Russian translation project, right? I'm guessing that there must be a fairly massive amount of translation to be done.

It's not just that.  It's that these professors seem to be jumping on the idea of getting some of these reputedly "untranslatable" poems translated, especially by the combined efforts of a Russian mathematician (i.e. someone extremely obsessed with patterns and structure) and an American polyglot math and humanities student (i.e. someone extremely sensitive to language).

The English professor wants me to come back and meet with her many times in the near future.  I'm very, very excited.  It looks like I might be getting another recommendation letter or two out of this one.

Now, in a few weeks, to see if I can't get in touch with the French -> English translation expert whose class I took for a few days as a freshman (... Yeah, I know.  Still, that's a contact!), and my Russian professor... the former will likely have ideas about how to approach certain problems, and the latter might be able to get me contacts with poetic experts in the Slavic Languages department who can help me understand what sorts of figures I could expect to see in the original poems.

Everyone: thank you, so very much.

My girlfriend took me shopping and I got pants, two shirts and a sweater for 100 bucks.

WHY DOES EVERYTHING COST SO MUCH.

Anyway I am now wearing cloths I bought in the last two years with more colour variety than white and Black.

Seriously, most of my wardrobe is several years old. You just need to know what is generic enough to never really go out of style.
Camo cargo pants + grey shirt? People will be wearing that into the year 3000.

Translating poetry... That sounds like something I would adore to do if I had the skills. Be sure to post a little of this stuff online. I'd love to read some of your translated poetry.
