I once beat EoSD on Easy mode, and all it took was all my continues. Ah, what a day that was! Clearly, I am the best at Touhous.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I was mentally unprepared to meet GlaDOS. That was actually rather emotional for me :o

Easy is for babies and people with no hands and no eyes. I am no baby, and I have both my hands and my eyes. :P
Start on lunatic, then. Get to where you're okay at it, then lower the difficulty to normal and whip ass.

Please read my above comment as: "That sounds like a great idea, and I'm certainly going to do just that!"

If I don't survive, tell my wife "Hello".

This made me feel very impartial.

And pictures of crabs always make me :3 for some reason.  That may not be the right facial expression, but I'm not sure what a smiling-crab-emote would look like.

On an unrelated note, today is just one of those inexplicably happy days~

I'm not one who enjoys the sun, and yet... Sleeping in the warm spring sun on a hammock with ice tea and Japanese indie bands. It feels unreal, and wonderful.
Such a simple pleasure, yet so nice.

The weather was pretty amazing here on the East Coast. And the sun always comes in and becomes amazing when you least expect it.

The weather was fairly cloudy while I was out, so I got the nice warmth of it without having it bearing down on me~

I'm happy about this because it made me realize that the men in my family are stupidly resistant to pain. My dad has a broken rib a few months ago that he didn't know he had, summoning stories on how he went through a martial arts tournament with a broken rib from the first round. And there is my breakdancing brother, who had broken his hands/fingers more times than you can count on them and was never really too bothered by that. And me, who has experienced being stabbed and only really feeling that bandaging it was a bother and nobody ever knew it happened.

I've come to think that pain is all in how you express it.  I've seen my father lit on fire, pretzel'd up in motorcycle wrecks, poke himself in the eye with a screwdriver, and tote his own weight with a hernia and a shin that's held together by screws.  The only time I've seen him totally ruined was the event that gave him those screws, when his tibia exploded, and even then it took like three days to convince him it wasn't just a sprain.  The difference is, he bellyaches about everything.  Pain doesn't slow him down, he just complains constantly and inclusively.  It's a trait I've kinda picked up, but nobody but him and me ever see the humor in it, and think we're just pansies.

You have a rich heritage. The richest. The only thing that would clinch it is if he also had a massive jaw of steel (that was also held together by steel pins).

Come back from a tiring weekend at Ren Faire to find that a peer review that I hadn't done yet due to my partner not sending me her paper and due tonight has had the deadline extended. Best damn news I've had all week. Then again I actually have to review two more papers now but I've got plenty of time to do them on Tuesday.

I had the day off for my birthday, yet I spent the better part of the morning trying to overcome a spat of serious depression, and finding anything that I wanted to do. I honestly wanted to see my family and friends, but a large part of me also didn't, for reasons that I found tough to parse. It was a strange and self-contradicting emotional tangle, but one that had led me to not make any plans with anyone, and generally mope around my home as a righteous mess.

Then, within the span of about 10 minutes, a good friend of mine, my brother and sister-in-law, and a cadre of other friends dropped by my apartment, wishing me well with many hugs and such. I was then invited out to a nice dinner at a small Italian place, where I saw some relatives, and returned home to my friends watching Boondock Saints, and chatting.

I don't often think about how lucky I am to have the people I have in my life... but I really do love them, and times like these make me feel quite loved in return.

Someone tell me that I'm not the only one who read this as balls of steel instead of jaw of steel at first.
